Objective
Organizations across industries are experiencing unprecedented technological advancement in artificial intelligence capabilities. The rapid evolution of AI capabilities—from machine learning to generative AI—offers transformative potential for operational efficiency, decision-making, and innovation. Driven by competitive pressures and the promise of enhanced performance, organizations are initiating AI projects and pilot implementations. However, despite significant investments in AI experimentation, many organizations struggle to move beyond the pilot phase toward sustained, enterprise-wide adoption that delivers measurable business value.
Together with industry partner BASF SE, this research project aims to advance the understanding of AI adoption as a critical pathway toward organizational digital transformation and as a foundation for sustainable competitive advantage. In particular, this project shall provide frameworks for transitioning from experimental AI pilots to enterprise-wide implementation and evaluate the technical, organizational, and human factors that influence successful AI adoption across different stakeholder groups and levels of expertise.
